With the kind permission and support of the Ulverston Inshore Rescue, we are now able to arrange a two day cruise on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August where we can invite everyone who would like to come along. The key aspect of doing this in a responsible way will be to ensure that everyone adheres to all Government advice regarding precautions to take, statutory and advisory, regarding the Covid 19 situation. This will be the responsibility of each individual and advice can be found at www.gov.uk/coronavirus where there is lots of advice and guidance available, but please decide for yourself if you feel appropriate for you to join.
To make the event feasible, everything will be held outdoors (as normal really!) with evening food and refreshments down to you – You will need to be self sufficient so bring your own food and drink, although a BBQ grille might be available for you to cook your food. The forecast looks good, however, so it could provide for a very pleasant evening where we can enjoy a social get together whilst maintaining the required distance from one another. As is usual at Ulverston, overnight parking is available.
Regarding the hovercraft cruising itself, normal requirements are in place, including:
- Any craft taking part should be suitable for coastal cruising and operate within its capabilities and capacity – see club website for further details
- As with many water activities where other marine traffic operates it is recommended that your craft is covered by suitable marine insurance (minimum third party liability)
- Bring sufficient fuel for the distance you anticipate travelling, plus a reserve As this will be a launch and go cruise (no beach buzzing) You will need to carry sufficient fuel for the duration estimated 40miles (plus a reserve)
- Life jackets are mandatory at all times when on the slipway, beach and beyond
For those who haven’t hovered from Ulverston before, Morecambe Bay offers some of the best hovercrafting there is – see some of the footage on You Tube for a taster. We have a number of suggested trips and destinations for experienced and less experienced alike – this can be discussed on the day and might depend on conditions at the time. Low tide on Saturday is at approx. 16.00 and about 50 minutes later on Sunday.
Whilst this is relatively short notice, we hope this will be the first of a few more cruises organised this year so if you cant make this one, don’t worry there will be more to come. Pass this message on to anyone you feel may miss it and get in touch with any questions. If you are thinking of coming, please get in touch so we have an idea of numbers of people and numbers/type of craft to expect.
As is traditional within the club and wider hovercraft friends, appreciation of the amazing service provided by the Ulverston Inshore Rescue and their kind hosting of us, can be recognised by giving a donation, as you see appropriate, on the day.
Look forward to seeing you!
