In March 2019 we went to Hagbourne Primary School near Didcot and helped
them with their STEM Fair. This attracted a lot of interest and now we have
been asked by Francis Baily Primary School whether we can assist in the same
way.
The first indication of attendance was 600, being the pupil number at the
school. This was then expanded with 200 pupils from the adjacent senior
school. Now 2 more schools have joined in with a further 800 pupils. In addition
each pupil is expected to be accompanied by a responsible adult. With the
potential number of pupils and parents coming this will be an excellent
opportunity to promote hovercrafting and the HCGB.
We have been allocated the use of the school playing fields (about the size of
4/5 football pitches) for giving rides. Already several members have indicated
that they are bringing craft to give rides, but more would be helpful. (Hovercraft
fuel costs will be reimbursed.) With the number of passengers, could you help
with preparing them for their ride by handing out the ear defenders and goggles
and seeing them to the craft?
The Scat will be available but I have had a knee operation which prevents me
from driving. If anyone would like to help by using this for giving rides or driver
training, please let me know.
If you have a racing craft not suitable for giving rides, this could be useful as a
static display.
